Walking tour of Ile de la Cité (morning tour)
The towers of the Conciergerie, which can be seen from the banks of the Seine river, remind us that our first kings built their first fortress here. In the Middle Ages, the Palace, renamed "la Conciergerie" was used as a prison and a courthouse. It contains remarkable medieval gothic vaulted rooms, some of which were the jail cells of Marie-Antoinette and Robespierre during the French Revolution. On the side of the Conciergerie, the 13th century church of Sainte Chapelle is a masterpiece of gothic art and its stained glass windows are outstanding. Our visit will end at Notre Dame, one of the greatest cathedral of France.
