Versailles (afternoon tour)

At the time of Louis XIV, Versailles was not just the capital of France. It was also a town which was a great deal larger than it is today. The royal family and the Court resided here along with numerous traders and artisans, and it was during the period that the centre of France revolved around its Sun King. It is for this reason that the château is so immense as it was necessary to provide accommodation for everyone, welcome them, support them and feed them. The visit of the Royal Apartments retraces these sumptuous period in the history of France. The Hall of Mirrors, famous for the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, was used for larger receptions during which Louis XIV would wanted to impress his guests. The tour of the château will end with a visit of Marie-Antoinette’s private apartments.
